Indie music is now in full swing and there are quite a few artists who are making waves with both the critics and the public. One such figure  is Michael Paul Hinson, who was born in 1981 in Tennessee, and is known for his very particular American style indie.

The singer and guitarist broke onto the scene in 2004 when he was 23, with the release of his first album called “Micah P. Hinson and the Gospel of Progress” which topped the chart and was hailed as “best album of the year” by many critics. From that moment on Hinson’s career began to grow steadily.

The artist was born into a family with strong religious convictions and that is why his music has great relationships with this theme (hence the term “Gospel” in the title of his debut album). His early life was marked by rough patches, and time spent skating and hanging with a girlfriend and model that he once called the “Black Widow.” Together they got into different drugs like valium, and in the spring of 2000 he spent time in jail for having forged prescriptions. In that dark period of his life, he said he lost his car, home, money, instruments, recording equipment and, especially, his whole family.

When he left prison and was kicked out of his house, he gradually picked himself up. Thanks to instruments lent by friends and a sales job he made do living in a motel and composed over 30 songs that ended up being part of his first production. Today, he is far away from the drug world that he once belonged to, still composing and presenting different songs.

Dogging sheds its mantle of secrecy

A lot of people have mistaken ideas about homosexuality. Some perhaps still believe the fairy tale that gays tend to have sex in an uncontrolled manner and without protection. This is one of the many myths surrounding homosexuality.  While some percentage of the gay community engages in practices like cruising, some members of the straight population engage in activities like dogging, i.e.,  encounters  that occur in open fields on the outskirts of towns and cities  which give free rein to sex with unknown people. Wild, anonymous sex is practiced by both homosexuals and heterosexuals, and control or lack thereof has to do with one’s own personal ethics and preferenences, not sexual orientation.

dogging sexy

Years ago, areas for dogging and cruising sprang up by chance, and grew gradually thanks to word of mouth and gossip by those who had lived the experience. But now, in the era of technology, these outlying areas have jumped more than ever to light thanks to the internet, chats, forums and other social networks. In fact, there are many groups that “discover” new areas for dogging and cruising, and new participants every day. Moreover, within these essentially public forums and sexual marketplaces, people can arrange to meet privately. Do you prefer the surprise of not knowing what you are going to find or do you prefer to know in advance who will attend your sexual encounters?

In any case, there is only one rule: respect. One may well go without participating actively, you can go to simply be a voyeur, but must respect all acts that are taking place there. Where can you go to experience one of these emotional and sexy meetings? You can do it in practically all cities in Spain, such as Valencia. Take advantage of a weekend and rent apartments in Valencia to see firsthand what happens in the wild Valencian night…

Svelte architecture in Valencia

IVAM in Valencia has been chosen to host a comprehensive retrospective on the famous Spanish architect Felix Candela. The exhibition was organized by the State commission on Commemorations in collaboration with the IVAM and the National Autonomous University of Mexico to celebrate the centenary of his birth.

The goal of his interesting exhibition is to commemorate Felix Candela’s rich legacy of imagination of and his innovative and revolutionary ideas, drawings, photographs, designs, blueprints and models to illustrate the career of an architect.

He is known for his graceful, monumental buildings, whose defiant aesthetic revolutionized the world of modern architecture. Candela died in 1997. His innovative ideas brought new life to architectural structures such as the concrete shell, which challenged and went beyond the parameters of art in his time.

Candela’s shells are not only a landmark of modern architecture, but also an innovative way of changing both aesthetic and economic dimension of his buildings, and were, therefore, a major engineering achievement. And hence the discussion about his works; was Candela an ingenious architect or an engineer with a high degree of aesthetic sensibility? For though his incredible structures were revolutionary both aesthetically and  with regard to engineering, he never completed his work by fitting doors, or dealing with other finishing touches concerning architecture.

Another important Candela contribution to modern architecture was the use of umbrellas and layered roof construction, which allowed the passage of natural light. These achievements made him one of the most important architects to this day, so it was decided to organize this important exhibition in his honor.

We encourage you to rent apartments in Valencia and visit this splendid exhibit in IVAM, which opened on October 21 and runs through Jan. 2nd.

The young Spanish artist Xavier Mascaro was born in Paris in 1965 and graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona. Today his art is recognized internationally. His unique imagery is full of giant guardians in a typically monumental format. His favorite material is iron, which lends his work a certain rough edge.

The museum IVAM in Valencia devotes a fascinating exhibition to the artist through the 5th of December. Under the title “Eternal Return” this young but prestigious artist has a chance to share his art in Valencia.

The exhibition’s title refers to one of the most striking features the magnificent work of this sculptor: its timelessness and spirituality. And is that through it, Mascaro meditates on death and the passage of time, and thus uses oxidized iron, an ancient material that has historically been associated with guardianship, all the while it highlights death and decay. Guardians who carry a certain essential heaviness figure heavily in Mascaro´s symbolic iconography.

The career of this young Spanish started in the 80′s, Mascaro´s first steps were in the field of painting and drawing. However, he soon found the sculpture as a means of expression par excellence, as an ideal means to “give presence to the gap” he perceived. Hence perhaps the monumental size of its work, which allows huge, masked monsters to take over the space.

For all those lovers of contemporary art, especially sculpture, this is without a doubt one of the most interesting exhibitions in Spain this year. So do not miss this opportunity, rent apartments in Valencia and enjoy the fantastic work of Xavier Mascaro.
