Assuming you are suffering from sexual dysfunction, so when one suspects that something is not right in sexual intercourse, the main thing is to analyze what happens to us: when it happens, what symptoms there are and above all, convey a specialist our observations. In some cases, these disorders can be misunderstood as casual or sporadic problems, and so, not be paid the necessary attention. For example, it usually happens with dyspareunia, better known as painful intercourse.

dyspareunia

Whether you are man or woman, you may, before, during or after sex, feel some discomfort, improper of sex. Therefore, you may suffer this kind of problem which can refer to a physical but also psychological problem. In many of these latter cases, it is normally due to the fact that the person transmits during sexual intercourse taboos and prejudices he or she may have about sexual issues and this becomes painful sex.

If the problem is physical, the man can attribute it to phimosis, prostate or some other diseases. Women, on the other hand, can relate it with vulvitis, vaginitis, cysts, cystitis and other problems. Look out, it can also be caused by allergic reactions to some contraceptives such as IUDs and condoms, diaphragms, and other spermicides.

But do not worry, there is no need to blame everything on some kind of disease. It may also simply be because when you practice sex you do not use a proper posture. Thus, when men penetrate with the penis woman’s vagina, you may overstep hitting deep painful areas. As far as we have said before, the main thing is to not come in the worst cases and simply analyze what happens to us.

How to deal with infidelity
icon1 valenciablogger | icon2 Valencia | icon4 01 28th, 2011| icon32 Comments »

One big question is whether human beings are unfaithful by nature, or if on the contrary, such loyalty is what differentiates us from other living beings. All of us can be on either one of the two sides. If your partner confesses that he/she has been unfaithful, how would you react? My partner and I have discussed this topic on many occasions and from his rigid response “I would leave you immediately”, we have moved to a “we would have to talk about it…”Is the next thing he will say “do whatever you want as long as you come home with me?”

treating infidelity

However, my position is more conciliatory (compared to his first position) and I vote for a “we would have to speak about it because one thing is to have a casual affair with someone you have known a night and another is being unfaithful with someone who you are deeply in love with”. The thing would be more difficult in this second case because although I am one of those who believe that we can fall for one or more people, I am not sure I would stand infidelity for love (whether it is settled or not) to the couple.

I don’t know what one can feel when living infidelity in first person, but in my case, I would not surprise myself if I slammed the door and forgot all reasoning. Certainly this would not be the most correct way to act; we would have to give way to rationality. “Crazy scenes” lead nowhere, it’s best to talk and whatever the decision one takes, never be carried away by anger. If there has been infidelity it is because of something, perhaps it is good to find out, maybe this way we can improve this or any future relationship, finally, after all, maybe it is not always the other’s fault.

The TGV reaches Valencia
icon1 valenciablogger | icon2 Valencia | icon4 01 26th, 2011| icon3No Comments »

In 1992, during the celebration of the Universal Exhibition in Seville, Spain opened the first line of high-speed train, or AVE (Spanish High Speed), which linked the cities of Madrid and Seville. There were so many critical voices about that because, as the Olympics were held that year in Barcelona, people did not understand that the first AVE line would not connect Madrid with the Catalan capital, taking into account that both were and are by far the two largest cities in the country both economically and in population.

ave valencia

To these criticisms the Social Democratic government of Felipe Gonzalez Sevilla responded with the argument that high-speed rail between Madrid and Barcelona, precisely because of the importance of both cities, was inevitable and only a matter of time (although eventually end up lingering more than 15 years), while in case of not using the opportunity of the Expo to join by a TGV line the Spanish capital with the cities of Cordoba and Seville it was quite possible that several decades would pass before anyone undertake the project.

It wasn’t then easy to imagine that 18 years later, the opening of the connection between Madrid-Cuenca-Albacete-Valencia, would make of Spain the first country in Europe and second worldwide in number of kilometers of railway lines with high speed service, and that the U.S. government would take the Spanish high speed network as a model to follow and imitate in their own territory. Yet, this is precisely what has happened and last Dec. 18 the first train from Madrid to Valencia arrived. A total of the tune of 1655.95 miles of TGV service, number which is currently just overcome by China.

The operation of this last stretch is great news for Valencia, a city that in recent years stands out as one of the most active and dynamic of the Mediterranean and, despite a very questionable policy and a predatory property speculation which is outrageously disregarding the environment and artistic-cultural environment (see the case of popular modernist Cabanyal district, unique in Europe, threatened with destruction by the right wing in power in Valencia to make way for a great avenue despite being declared a protected historic and heritage cultural interest) has undertaken important projects in the architectural past decade that have been at the forefront of the international avant-garde (complex City of Arts and Sciences, Calatrava, Veles e Vents by David Chipperfield and b720 Group .. .)

For its incomparable light, modernity and huge artistic, cultural and historical wealth, renting apartments in Valencia is always a good idea which the AVE makes now even more enjoyable to perform.

Imagine a place where you can eat, for example, delicious ravioli or basmati rice with tai sauce, after eating a refreshing oriental soup or a winter salad. Imagine that while this happens we can go watering food, perhaps accompanied by a rich lupine humus, with an excellent wine that makes us think, with a similar feeling to lust, of the delicious dessert that will crown the feast, perhaps the famous pineapple and fennel ice cream or Gin & Tonic sorbet, if we want to extend the little but pleasant altered state of consciousness.

espaivisor valencia

Moreover, we can do all this for a price not necessarily higher than thirty euros per person, in an informal and friendly place both inside and outside on a terrace in one of the squares of the charming district of Carmen, not far from the cathedral that holds the Holy Grail and some famous faces relics believers and fans of a certain kind of heightened awareness literature.

It would be legitimate to assume, then, that we are in one of those meticulous signature restaurants which are not uncommon in the area. But the curious thing about this great vegetarian restaurant we are describing is that often we can also see exciting exhibitions of contemporary art in its dependencies.

We are speaking of Espaivisor (Corretgeria 40), a contemporary art gallery run by artists Miriam Lozano and Mira Bernabeu whose reputation has continued to grow in recent years in Valencia and beyond, which has led them to be present in international fairs such as Arco (Madrid), Photo Miami, and Contemporary Art Fair of Valencia.

Although its current location is fairly recent, Visor gallery was founded for nearly thirty years, with the intention of exposing artwork representing the latest trends in video and photography. In regard to creating film and video, Visor’s programming clearly distinguishes between three areas: animation, creative documentaries and filming.

Another Visor’s distinctive feature is the special importance it provides, always inviting to reflection, to issues of identity and gender, focusing from a critical eye with the power and the dominant values and, a closely linked with feminist thought.

On the other hand, from the earliest times, Visor has sought to show both the work of artists of great prestige, as is the case, for example, of Esther Ferrer, one of the pioneers of performance in Spain, who presented photographic work here last summer, or the Guatemalan photographer Luis Gonzalez Palma, whose exhilarating and disturbing work will be exhibited until Jan. 29, as well as those of young artists.

There is no doubt that Christina Rosenvinge is one of the most iconic voices of Spanish pop. Born in 1964, she made her debut in music with her band Christina y Los Subterráneos, a group that was spawned in what was named the Movida movement.

christina rosenvinge

After a few solo albums in 1999 she moved to New York, where she entered into the American scene sponsored by Lee Renaldo, Sonic Youth guitarist, she recorded three albums in English in 2001, which are the most risky and experimental ones of her career. And undoubtedly, they included the dark and somewhat gloomy influence of the legendary New York band Sonic Youth which opened her the gateway to the New York alternative circuit.

In 2007, however, she returned to her origins with an album recorded entirely in Spanish in collaboration with the singer Nacho Vegas. Having shared the cover for an anniversary edition of the magazine Rockdelux in spring of that year, the duo embarked on their first joint project, the EP “Verano Fatal” which gave her more credibility with the snob Indie scene and to Nacho Vegas, the attention of a wider audience. The creative union was strengthened later with the album “Tu labio superior”, which critics celebrated as the best of her career, a true gem of sophisticated pop.

Her latest album “La joven Dolores” will be launched in early 2011. And Rosenvinge will tour to introduce her latest work to her fans. The first single is “Mi vida bajo el agua”, but for now we do not know much more about the new album of Spanish Indie muse.

The arm of Saint Vincent Martyr
icon1 valenciablogger | icon2 Valencia | icon4 01 18th, 2011| icon32 Comments »

One of the most gruesome stories from the countless stories that exist in this aspect about the marvelous old city of Prague refers to one of the most beautiful churches. One can say that this church is famous for two organs of different nature. The first one, which is why the church of Santiago claims to have one of the best acoustics in the city, is a truly exceptional historical musical instrument whose excellent sound attracts hundreds of people to concerts that are held throughout the year. The other one, however, has to do with human anatomy. This is a piece of shrunken, blackened and dry meat, hanging from the ceiling in an area not far away near the entrance.

saint vincent martyr arm

According to legend it would have been there for more than 600 years, since the night when a thief made the daring of breaking into the church and found out that the statue of the Virgin Mary prevented him from going out by holding him firmly by the arm. It is the same arm that allegedly hangs from the ceiling as a deterrent example to potential criminals and heretics. Notwithstanding the picturesque fact of the story, it is true that for many the arm presents a sad spectacle of a perhaps exaggerated morbidity.

Although there are voices that think the same about the arm exhibited in the magnificent cathedral of Valencia, both its presentation, -it is shown, uncorrupted, at the Renaissance Chapel of the Resurrection in a beautiful glass display case- and its meaning for the city –it supposedly belongs to St. Vincent Martyr, the patron of Valencia, whose name day is a holiday in the city- they seem to be thousands of light years away. The arm is there racing against no other than the alleged Holy Grail, one of the greatest Christian fetishes; yet often it gets through without major problems in visitor numbers.

Saint Vincent Martyr -perhaps ironically also patron of the tailors and dressmakers guild- appears in the famous Catholic macabre tradition recorded in books as fabulous and twisted inventive as the Golden Legend by Jacobus de Voragine, a veritable catalog of unequaled apocryphal atrocities, apart from a crucial source for understanding the Catholic iconography, a supposedly uplifting literary genre where, compared with women, holy men do not come off so bad after all. From today’s perspective it is hard to think that the grisly tortures these holy men and women would have had to suffer could be exemplary and it is also disconcerting that from the Church Order in more than one occasion the violent and obscene content of contemporary artistic creations is condemned.

Eugene de Salignac at the MuVIM
icon1 valenciablogger | icon2 Valencia | icon4 01 12th, 2011| icon33 Comments »

Until January 30, 2011 the work of American photographer of the early twentieth century, Eugene de Salignan, is exhibited in MuVIM. Salignac captures with his camera the urban development of the early century in New York, especially, in Manhattan, where the urban revolution reflected in the construction of skyscrapers will be the personality of the world’s most cosmopolitan city.

eugene salignac muvim

Salignac Eugene, born in 1861, had a start with photography by chance. His work as an officer of New York tunnels and bridges meant being sent to record photographically the growth of the city. These were the years when New York began to be populated by European immigrants, so the camera on his shoulder started him in photography in 1906 and never stopped until 1934. He performed more than 20,000 photographs of the city, improving his eye and look to get to have a reputation in the photography world.

What started as a routine work of an official would end as a work of contemporary art. Yes, because Salignac’s photos have subversive charm and depth, which encourages going back to the development process of the megalopolis, built on the human labor of poor European immigrants. In addition, his photographic compositions and the masterful use of light are remarkable.

His photos on the Manhattan and Queensboro bridges, Municipal Building, subway tunnels, trolley lines and ferries, are just an excuse to capture the essence of the city: men. Impressive is the photo taken on October 7, 1914 to a group of painters of the cables that hold the Brooklyn Bridge under construction, which was used for a report on the construction of the bridge. In it painters are suspended in the fabric of cables are dressed in everyday clothes and have no security to prevent them from falling over the edge. Workers are placed in an almost surreal order; they seem to be suspended in a spider web. The picture is superb and encourages reflection on the enormous human effort behind a monumental work.

However, this genius of photography was unknown until the photographer Michael Lorenzini discovered him in the Municipal Archives in New York City. The task was not easy, he had to seek in the social security files, censuses and birth certificates to see who was the man who had recorded the urban development of New York City and it came to be the great and unknown, until then, Eugene Salignac.

Salignac died on November 4, 1943, the same day that the opening of the exhibition by photographers Tieglitz, Weston, Abbott was announced and official recognition of photography as an art in the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
